The Citizens claimed their first-ever European trophy to complete a historic treble.
UEFA has announced the official Team of the Season for the Champions League’s 2022-23 campaign.
The competition ended on Saturday, with Manchester City beating Inter 1-0 in the final. Ruben Diaz scored the Citizens’ trophy-winning goal as they claimed their third trophy of the season.
Pep Guardiola’s side enjoyed incredible depth in their squad this season, having several top-class players in each position. Seven Man City players have made it into the Team of the Season.
Thibaut Courtois, who made 42 saves for Real Madrid during the competition, stands between the posts. The Belgian star plays behind a four-man backline consisting of Federico Dimarco, Alessandro Bastoni, Ruben Dias, and Kyle Walker.
John Stones, who developed into a midfielder under Guardiola during the season, forms the midfield line alongside his teammates Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne.
The trio play behind Bernardo Silva and Vinicius Junior as the team’s wingers. Erling Haaland, who became the tournament’s top-scorer with 12 goals, is the obvious pick for the striker position.
City won the title after making 200 goalscoring attempts, of which 89 were on target. The Citizens also had the best passing accuracy (90.2%) among the teams competing in the Champions League.
