The Citizens will have one of their key defenders back for their upcoming battle against Real Madrid.

Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker returned to full first-team training on Tuesday.

The England international’s absence had a significant impact on the Citizens’ defensive issues in their recent games. The Citizens conceded three goals against Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie last week.

However, they will have Walker in their squad for the second leg at Santiago Bernabeu. Pep Guardiola’s side will also have Joao Cancelo back after he missed the first leg with suspension.

Speaking about his side’s defensive issues in a pre-match press conference, the City manager said: “We have to be better. But we can play much worse than we played and still win.

“Sometimes you get what you don’t deserve, sometimes you don’t get what you deserve. We have to perform incredibly well and win the game.

“Last week’s game is in the past. The tie is 180 minutes. We try to do better than what we have done. We go there for that and everyone is ready to try to do it.”

Guardiola confirmed Walker will travel with the Citizens for their upcoming game: “He trained, he’ll travel and we decide tomorrow. I’m happy he’s back.”

City has kept four clean sheets in their UCL knock-out stage games this season. Let’s see if they can eliminate Real Madrid by preventing them from getting back into the tie on Wednesday.
