The Norwegian star missed City’s match against Leicester City on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola has confirmed Erling Haaland has sustained a ligament injury.

The Premier League top scorer had to leave the pitch at half-time during his side’s draw against Borussia Dortmund in midweek.

The Citizens went on to beat Leicester City through Kevin de Bruyne’s wonderful free-kick on Saturday, but Haaland failed to make his return.

Speaking ahead of the game, Guardiola provided an update on the striker.

Asked by BBC about Haaland’s return date, the Spaniard said: “I don’t know. He has ligament damage. He feels better, we have one more week.

“He won’t play against Sevilla because we’ve already qualified and hopefully against Fulham he can help us. If not he might play against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.”

Haaland has quickly established himself as a key player in City’s attacking line this season. Having scored 17 goals in 11 Premier League game, the Norwegian won’t be easy to replace.

Guardiola started Julian Alvarez as his side’s number nine against Leicester City but later substituted him with Phil Foden.

City are, by no means, short of attacking options. But Haaland’s delayed return could still cause problems for Guardiola’s side in their close race with Arsenal at the top of the table.
