The German midfielder has attracted interest from the Gunners ahead of the summer transfer window.

Pep Guardiola has insisted he ‘wants’ Ilkay Gundogan in his squad for the next season.

The German midfielder was Guardiola’s first signing when he arrived at Etihad in 2016. Since then, he has developed into one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, winning three league titles with the Citizens.

Gundogan is on the verge of claiming his fourth Premier League trophy. But, uncertainty over his future has intensified ahead of the league’s final matchday.

According to football.london, Arsenal are considering a summer move for Gundogan. The English outlet claims Arteta wants the experienced midfielder to play as a straight-up forward in his team.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of his side’s upcoming title-decider against Aston Villa, Guardiola reacted to the transfer rumours around Gundogan.

“If you ask me personally, I want Ilkay here next season,” the Spaniard said.

“There is no idea or intention next season that Ilkay can’t be here. If he wants to leave or wants a new experience, as a club we don’t know it.”

Gundogan played as a false nine in Guardiola’s system last season and became their top scorer.

However, the arrival of Erling Haaland could tempt City to offload some of their attacking options. On the other hand, most observers believe the 31-year-old can easily integrate into Mikel Arteta’s 4-3-3 system at Arsenal.
