The Citizens are eager to add a new winger to their ranks after the departure of Riyad Mahrez.

Manchester City will reportedly continue their efforts to sign a new midfielder after their failed bid to sign Lucas Paqueta.

The West Ham star came close to joining Man City, who were willing to sign him on a £60m move. However, reports from the English media claim the move has collapsed due to an ongoing FA investigation into Paqueta’s alleged betting breaches.

Following Riyad Mahrez’s move to Al Ahli, Paqueta emerged as City’s No.1 target to bolster their midfield line. The club are now considering moves for two alternatives.

According to Goal, City are plotting a move for Rennes’ Jeremy Doku. However, West Ham is leading the race to sign the Belgian star, forcing the Citizens to also explore a potential offer for Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze.

Tottenham are also in the race to sign Eze, who joined Palace on a £16m deal in 2020. Since then, the English midfielder has become a key player in Palace’s midfield, registering 15 goals and 11 assists in his 94 appearances for the club.

Pep Guardiola’s men started their treble-defending campaign with a 3-0 match against Burnley last week. On Saturday, the Citizens will host Newcastle in their next league game.
