The Catalans have emerged as main suitors for the experienced midfielder.

Barcelona has never been close to signing Bernardo Silva, according to Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano.

Silva was reportedly among Barca’s main transfer targets this summer. However, Pep Guardiola has made it clear he wants the Spaniard in his squad for the new season.

“This story has taken many turns, but deep down it has never moved from the starting point,” Soriano told Cadena Ser.

He added: “It’s a bit late to talk about comings and goings.”

With only a week remaining until the transfer window’s deadline, it seems Silva will spend another season at Etihad.

The 30-year-old playmaker has continued his crucial role in City’s midfield since the start of the 2022-23 campaign. He scored and provided an assist in the Citizens’ 3-3 draw with Newcastle last weekend.

Meanwhile, Barcelona will most likely avoid signing a new player this summer. The Catalans are focusing on sorting out their departures, hoping to register Jules Kounde’s contract by offloading a few players.

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly looking to swap Thomas Meunier with Sergino Dest, while Bayern have emerged as new suitors for Frenkie de Jong.
