The Man City newboy started his debut Premier League campaign with a wonderful performance.
Former Italy manager Fabio Capello has picked Manchester City as the favourites to win this season’s Champions League.
Man City defeated West Ham 2-0 in their Premier League opener last weekend. Their newly-arrived striker, Erling Haaland, scored both goals, marking an impressive debut in the English top-flight.
Capello, who won the Champions League as Milan’s boss in 1994, believes Haaland’s presence will be enough for City to claim the title this season.
“This year there is a favourite for me: Manchester City,” the ex-England manager told Il Mattino. “There is no race.
“They finally have a powerful centre-forward in Haaland. He has power and speed.
“I saw the match against West Ham and I realised that this time Guardiola has no excuse: he has to win the Champions League.
“Even if, in the end, they’ll tell him that he [only] won the Champions League first with [Lionel] Messi and then with Haaland.”
In addition to Haaland, Man City have added Kalvin Phillips and Stefan Ortega to their ranks for the new season.
Following the departure of Oleksandr Zinchenko, the Citizens are keen to add a new left-back to their squad. However, Guardiola has insisted his team is already well-equipped to compete for all titles this season.
