A crucial victory for Pep Guardiola’s side increased their lead over Manchester United to three points.

Manchester City defeated Tottenham 4-2 in their Premier League game on Thursday. Spurs failed to hold on to their two-goal lead as they lost the six-goal thriller.

A quick comeback!

City came into the game on the back of their frustrating defeat in the Manchester derby last weekend. The Citizens showed they were hungry for goals early on but lacked their usual rhythm.

Erling Haaland missed two golden opportunities to break the deadlock when City increased the pressure after the 20-minute mark. But then a mistake from Ederson changed the course of the game.

A careless pass from the goalkeeper saw Dejan Kulusevski latch onto the loose ball before slotting it into the back of the net in the 44th minute. Only two minutes later, Emerson Royal completed City’s nightmarish first half with a header.

But City were quick in returning back into the game after the break. Only six minutes into the second half, Julian Alvarez pulled one back for the guests.

Two minutes later, Riyad Mahrez’s assist saw Haaland make it 2-2 for the Citizens with a header from close range. The Citizens kept the pressure on Tottenham’s disorganized backline to complete their comeback.

It didn’t take Guardiola’s men too long before they scored their third goal of the night. Mahrez moved down the right-hand channel before rifling a precise low shot past Hugo Lloris in the 63rd minute.

Spurs then tried to come back into the game by sending through balls to Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. But their efforts failed to break City’s dominance.

Mahrez put the icing on the cake for City when he completed his fantastic performance with another goal in the 90th minute.

The victory extends City’s lead over third-placed Man Utd to three points. The Citizens must host Wolves in their next league game on Sunday.
