An easy win for the Citizens saw Chelsea continue their disappointing run under Graham Potter.

Manchester City defeated Chelsea 3-0 in their FA Cup game on Sunday. A fantastic first-half display was enough for the Citizens to reach the next round of the competition.

Potter out?

Chelsea came into the game on the back of their narrow defeat against City in the Premier League.

But they showed no improvement as they started the FA Cup game on a disappointing note. The Citizens quickly established their dominance, not allowing Chelsea to gain possession.

Following a few missed chances, City finally scored the opener through Riyad Mahrez’s wonder goal in the 23rd minute. The Algerian star smashed a free kick into the upper-right corner of the net from long range to put the Citizens ahead.

City then used their momentum to score another goal only seven minutes later. A handball from Kai Havertz convinced the referee to point to the penalty spot, with Julian Alvarez then scoring City’s second goal of the night with a precise low shot.

The Citizens continued their pressure on Chelsea’s devastated backline and secured their victory in the 38th minute.

Following a cutback from Kyle Walker, Phil Foden nodded the ball past Kepa Arizabalaga with a neat touch inside the six-yard box.

Potter made a few changes to his lineup at the start of the second half. But his substitutions weren’t enough to turn the game around.

Chelsea managed to make one shot on target while the Citizens comfortably stayed in charge of the possession. Another penalty saw Mahrez complete his brace and make it 4-0 for the hosts in the 85th minute.

Man City will face the winners of Arsenal’s clash against Oxford City in the FA Cup’s fourth round. Before that, however, the Citizens must return to the EFL Cup, where they meet Southampton at St. Mary’s.
