A fantastic attacking performance puts City in pole position to reach the UCL semi-finals.
Manchester City defeated Bayern Munich 3-0 in their Champions League clash on Tuesday. A display of power at Etihad left the Bavarians stunned against their in-form rivals.
A dominant display!
Man City took control of the possession early on, but Bayern prevented them from finding the back of the net with solid defending.
Rodri then changed the course of the game with a stunning shot from behind the box. The Portuguese star latched onto the ball before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net.
The visitors tried to bounce back with a quick equalizer but tackles from Ruben Diaz, and Nathan Ake kept City ahead. Bayern went into the offensive again at the beginning of the second half. Leroy Sane missed a golden chance to clinch the equalizer for Thomas Tuchel’s side as Ederson denied him the goal in a one-on-one situation.
City reclaimed their control over the game as the second period went on. Yann Sommer made a few massive saves to keep Bayern in the game but finally conceded the second goal against Bernardo Silva.
A poor pass from Dayot Upamecano found Jack Grealish, who played the ball to Erling Haaland. The Norwegian star then sent a precise ball for Silva, who headed the ball home to make it 2-0 in the 70th minute.
Bayern weren’t able to stop City from capitalizing on their rhythm. The Citizens completed their brilliant attacking display when Haaland converted John Stones’ assist down the far post.
The Citizens had enough chances to increase their lead toward the end of the game as Bayern failed to mount a comeback.
The Bavarians settled for a 3-0 defeat at Etihad, failing to counter City’s incredible firepower.
Tuchel’s side will have to fight an uphill battle against City at Allianz next Wednesday.
