Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles has been linked with a shock move to Manchester United but it appears to be false news.

Over the past 24 hours, a report from Germany claimed Maitland-Niles was close to joining Manchester United from Arsenal.

The Gunners need to sell players before deadline day in order to raise funds for some top targets which include Houssem Aouar and Thomas Partey.

Maitland-Niles came close to leaving the Gunners last month but the club rejected multiple bids from Wolves.

Once again, he was linked with an exit and this time it was with Manchester United.

Sport 1, who first broke the news, claimed the deal was already in the final stages of completion.

But Goal has revealed in a report there is no truth to those claims. Sources at Manchester United and Arsenal have dismissed the news as ‘pure speculation’.

This season, Maitland-Niles has been a key figure of the Gunners squad, having started three out of their four games.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has also heaped praise on the player while publicly stating his desire to keep him at the club.
