The Red Devils have battled back from losing positions quite a few times this season but they weren’t resilient enough at the Hawthorns.

Harry Maguire says Manchester United must learn to strike first in matches after the 1-1 draw against West Brom.

Manchester United have made a habit of fighting their way to victory after going behind, having gained 20 points from losing positions prior to Sunday.

But that strategy proved costly against West Brom as they could only secure a point, with Bruno Fernandes scoring the equalizer after Mbaye Diagne had opened the scoring within 83 seconds of kick-off.

The Red Devils’ Premier League title hopes are increasingly slipping away as they now find themselves seven points adrift of leaders Manchester City, who still have a game in hand.

Maguire told MUTV: “For sure we need to improve, we need to do better.

“We need to not be waiting until the last kick of the game to create big chances, but we dominated the half, we dominated the game, and we know that we’re not going to come here and create nine, 10 chances – that doesn’t happen.

“You need to get the first goal and then things open up, and the first goal is crucial.”
