Ex-Blues legend Pat Nevin felt nostalgic as the Morocco international Hakim Ziyech reminds him of two of the top Chelsea players.

Chelsea displayed their best performance of the new season so far last weekend in the Premier League. The Blues made a dominating comeback to beat Sheffield United 4-1 at Stamford Bridge. And new signing Hakim Ziyech reminded former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin of both Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard.

The 27-year-old transferred from Ajax for £33 million during the summer. Ziyech, moreover, was brilliant throughout the game against the Blades. Consequently, the Morocco international teed up two great balls for Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva.

Chelsea has high hopes this season.

Nevin spent five years with Chelsea in London from 1983-88. The ex-Blues legend believes that Frank Lampard has discovered a jewel for his team when it comes to Ziyech.

“It was a magnificent performance showing little glimpses that reminded you of the best of Eden Hazard at one moment and then Cesc Fabregas’s genius two minutes later,” Nevin said of Ziyech on Chelsea’s official website.

“I can already see something special with Reece and Hakim. You might stop one, but that will create space for the other. Timo Werner has obviously figured out that he is a good guy to know.

“Every time Hakim gets the ball, Timo is off haring into space knowing that Hakim can find him nine times out of ten. If that ball is coming in from the right-wing, Timo will be on that back post.”

Ziyech, however, suffered from a knee injury at the beginning of the campaign and could not make his first-team start sooner. Though, it is now clear that the winger is set to fulfill Lampard’s wishes for Chelsea in the English top-tier.

“He has given us an extra edge and a different threat,” said Lampard. “He’s been out for a long time so it’s been really impressive how quickly he’s hit the ground running.

“He gives us a different style in terms of the left foot off the right side.

“It’s something we haven’t had much of in recent years.
