The 28-year-old marksman could be absent for the Blues when they resume Premier League action next week.

Romelu Lukaku has withdrawn from the Belgium squad due to “muscle fatigue,” head coach Roberto Martinez has confirmed.

Lukaku was in action on Wednesday, scoring a superb goal in Belgium’s 3-2 defeat against France in the Nations League semi-final.

The 28-year-old striker, however, will play no part in the third-place play-off match against Italy as he departed the team’s training base on Saturday.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel will be far from delighted after hearing the news. Chelsea resume Premier League action on Saturday 16 by playing against Brentford and could be forced to line up without their £97.5 million man.

“Romelu Lukaku is suffering from muscle fatigue, same as Eden Hazard,” said Martinez, as Fabrizio Romano reports.

“They’re not in best conditions to play. They’re leaving the national team camp due to these problems – I don’t know how long it will take [for them to recover].”
