Romelu Lukaku has picked up the Europa League Player of the Season award after shining for Inter Milan in the 2019/20 campaign.
Inter Milan forward Romelu Lukaku has won the award for the best player in the Europa League for the 2019/20 campaign.
Having left Manchester United last summer, the Belgian had an impressive debut season for the Nerazzurri. In the Serie A, the striker enjoyed a prolific spell where he bagged 23 goals in 36 appearances.
Lukaku was also in good form on the continental front. The Belgian striker scored seven goals in just five matches for Inter, helping them to the Europa League final. However, his exploits were not enough as they were eventually beaten by Sevilla in Cologne.
Despite Inter’s defeat, Lukaku was voted as the best player in the competition, beating Bruno Fernandes and Ever Banega to the prize.
Speaking after receiving his award, the Inter forward said to the official Europa League website: “I want to thank my mum, my brother, my agents, RocNation for supporting me.
“I want to thank Antonio Conte and his staff for their trust and for helping me. Most importantly I want to thank my team-mates. They’ve been like brothers to me from day one.
“Every day I come into training with a smile on my face. I hope this year we’re going to do much better than last year and have lots of success.”
Inter will focus on the Champions League this season, having finished second in the Serie A last season. Unlike last season, they will aim to qualify from the group stages this time around. Their Champions League group includes Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Borussia Monchengladbach.
Conte will no doubt count on Lukaku to fire in the goals and inspire his side to seal crucial victories.
