The Inter striker has been outstanding this season with an ample amount of goals and assists, but he is doing enough for the Ballon d’Or?

Former AC Milan and Juventus manager Alberto Zaccheroni wouldn’t be surprised to see Romelu Lukaku win the Ballon d’Or in 2021.

The 27-year-old is arguably enjoying his best campaign so far, having managed 18 goals and six assists in only 24 Serie A games. In fact, he has the most goal involvements in the Italian league to help Inter move top of the standings.

Competition for the Ballon d’Or is obviously steep, with the likes of Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski also in form. But if Lukaku can keep his excellent performances going, then why can’t he win it?

“I think it should be awarded to a player who shifts the balance, both technically and physically. These are the most important characteristics,” Zaccheroni told Tuttosport.

“Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins the Ballon d’Or.

“He’s been doing extraordinary things since he joined Inter. In Italy there isn’t a player who shifts the balance as he does.

“Maybe the other one is [AC Milan midfielder Franck] Kessie, he is unstoppable when he takes the ball and defends it.”

Lukaku and Inter return to action on Monday night for a Serie A clash with Atalanta at San Siro.
