The former Barcelona star is available as a free agent after leaving Atletico Madrid in June.
Luis Suarez has rejected a transfer offer from River Plate ahead of the next season.
The Uruguayan striker left Atletico Madrid after spending two seasons at Wanda Metropolitano. River Plate negotiated with Suarez over a move to the Argentine side.
However, the experienced forward revealed he rejected their offer on Thursday.
“I was really tempted despite my plan to stay in Europe because River were pushing a lot to sign me,” Suarez told Ovacion.
“But the deal has collapsed as they’re now out of the Copa Libertadores.”
River Plate crashed out of the Libertadores round of 16 on Wednesday night. After a 1-0 defeat in the first leg, Velez Sarsfield managed to hold the Argentine giants to a goalless draw at El Monumental.
With Suarez cancelling his move to River Plate, he remains available as a free agent ahead of the next season. The 35-year-old is keen to stay in Europe as he wants to have a place in Uruguay’s World Cup squad later this year.
Suarez scored 11 goals and provided three assists in his 35 league appearance for Atletico last season.
According to Italian sources, the former Barcelona star has offered his services to Juventus, who are searching for a new striker after Alvaro Morata’s return to Atletico Madrid.
