The two superstars got rough treatment from PSG fans in the first game after their surprise Champions League exit.
Paris Saint-Germain defeated Bordeaux 3-0 in their Ligue 1 game on Sunday. Three goals from Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Leandro Paredes secured another win for the league leaders.
However, what happened on the stands during the game overshadowed PSG’s victory. During the game, fans booed Lionel Messi and Neymar with their every touch of the ball, not even stopping when the Brazil star scored his side’s second goal.
A surprise comeback from Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu saw PSG crash out of the Champions League in the last-16 round. Karim Benzema’s masterclass highlighted the weak performances of Messi and Neymar, who made little impact after the hosts’ first goal in their 3-1 win.
Messi and Neymar’s former Barcelona teammate Luis Suarez reacted to the incident by publishing an Instagram story.
Sharing a photo of himself next to the other members of the iconic ‘MSN’ front three, the 35-year-old wrote: “As always, football has no memories.
“Always with you. I love you very much.”
Another former Barca star, Cesc Fabregas, took to Twitter to send his support for the PSG duo.
“Football has no memory whatsoever… it’s a shame. Always with you brothers,” Fabregas wrote.
What’s next for PSG?
PSG are leading the Ligue 1 table with a 15-point lead as their league opponents continue to struggle for consistency.
Next week, Mauricio Pochettino’s side will take on eighth-placed Monaco. Mbappe’s former team suffered a disappointing defeat against Strasbourg on Sunday.
