Lucien Favre talked about Borussia Dortmund striker’s low performance along with major doubts about his future at the club.
Lucien Favre fired up comments regarding Jadon Sancho’s poor performance for Borussia Dortmund.
As seen by everyone, Sancho linked with the Premier League side Manchester United side throughout the entire transfer window. Subsequently, the Red Devils constantly put pressure to purchase the England international.
Although, Dortmund denied every offer United put forward to move Sancho to Old Trafford. Consequently, the 20-year-old will now stay with the Bundesliga side until the end of this season.
Moreover, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said that there was a misunderstanding between the clubs. However, he did not cancel out the option to sell the youngster in the future.
Questionable future?
Meanwhile, Sancho is struggling to put forth a show this season. He only scored one goal while providing three assists in the first six appearances for Dortmund.
During a press conference ahead of Dortmund’s Champions League clash, Favre talked about Sancho’s poor spell.
“Every player has slow periods,” Favre explained. “There was a lot of talk about Jadon in the summer, something like that can also have an influence.
“But no player is consistently in top form for a year, that’s impossible. You have to accept that.”
It seemed as if the Dortmund gaffer is losing his faith in the young striker following frequent transfer talks. Additionally, it is likely that Favre might believe that Sancho will potentially leave the club.
Though, at this moment, the team will focus on the next challenge on the European stage.
Dortmund lost their first Champions League fixture against Lazio last week. Now they will face the Russian side Zenit in Wednesday’s clash.
“In my opinion, Zenit lost unnecessarily against Brugge. They missed a few great chances which show how dangerous a team they are,” Favre said.
On the other side, Roman Burki returned to Dortmund’s starting XI following the 3-0 win over Schalke last weekend.
Ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash, Favre refused to provide further information regarding his team selection.
“I’m not going to say anything about the team tomorrow. I don’t want to give any information to our opponents, you have to understand me,” Favre said.
