The Gunners have tied Mohamed Elneny down to a new deal.
Mohamed Elneny has signed a one-year contract extension at Arsenal.
The Egypt international has made 155 appearances for the Gunners, and he’s currently their longest-serving star. Earlier this season reports from English media claimed Elneny would leave the Emirates for free next summer.
However, the Gunners have reached an agreement to keep the midfielder for another year.
“I’m so happy, I love this club and our supporters so much and I’ll give everything to help us be the best we can be, every day I’m here,” he told the club’s website.
“It makes me so proud to have represented this amazing club since 2016.”
Elneny underwent surgery after suffering a knee problem in January. The 30-year-old will most likely stay sidelined until the next season.
Elneny’s injury convinced Arsenal to sign Chelsea‘s Jorginho as his replacement last month. The experienced star will provide more squad depth in Arsenal’s midfield as they push to win the Premier League for the first time since 2004.
The Gunners reclaimed their spot at the top of the league table with a dramatic comeback against Aston Villa last weekend. Next up, Mikel Arteta’s men will face Leicester City on Saturday.
