Liverpool and RB Leipzig will play the second leg tie of their last-16 Champions League clash at a different venue from Anfield.
Due to coronavirus restrictions, the second leg of Liverpool and RB Leipzig’s Champions League last-16 has been switched from Anfield to Budapest.
The first leg was also held in Hungary, at the Puskas Arena, the same venue for the now re-scheduled return leg.
The tie will continue with the away goals rule despite both games being played in the same stadium. Liverpool will come into the game with a 0-2 away lead.
The initial date of March 10 for the fixture remains unchanged.
UEFA said in a statement on Thursday morning: “Uefa is able to officially confirm that the Champions League round of 16 second leg match between Liverpool and RB Leipzig will now be played at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.”
“UEFA would like to express its gratitude to Liverpool and Leipzig for their support and close cooperation, as well as the Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ) for its assistance and agreeing to stage the match.”
The German government informed Leipzig of the need to quarantine for 10 days if the game had carried on at Anfield as planned. That would have affected Leipzig’s season and it’s among the key reasons that saw the tie re-scheduled.
