The Reds are reportedly planning to sign a new midfielder this summer.

Liverpool have been keeping tabs on Barcelona youngster Gavi in recent months.

The Catalans have pushed to tie the midfielder down to a new contract. However, negotiations have proved difficult, with Spanish sources claiming Gavi’s representatives are not satisfied by Barca’s financial offer.

According to SPORT, Liverpool have been closely following the negotiations in recent months. The Reds are now preparing to make a move for Gavi in the summer transfer window.

The 17-year-old has a €50m release clause in his contract, which Liverpool are reportedly open to paying.

Gavi’s possible departure would be a massive blow to Barca, given his incredible potential. The teenager made 34 La Liga appearances for the Catalans last season, fully establishing himself as a first-team player under Xavi Hernandez.

In addition to Gavi, Liverpool are also among Ousmane Dembele’s suitors. The Frenchman’s current deal will expire this summer, with no signs of a potential renewal being imminent.

Compared to Gavi, Barca have a smaller chance of keeping Dembele at Camp Nou. However, from Liverpool’s perspective, they might face stronger competition for the French star.

According to several French sources, Paris Saint-Germain reached a verbal agreement with Dembele in March.
In addition to the Ligue 1 giants, Bayern Munich are known to be in the race to sign the winger as they look to replace Serge Gnabry.
