The Reds have suffered yet another injury blow in their midfield line.
Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara will reportedly stay out of action for up to a month after suffering a hip injury.
The Reds hoped to slowly come back from their injury crisis as the likes of Diogo Jota, Virgil van Dijk, and Roberto Firmino returned to training.
However, another massive injury blow has now hit the Liverpool squad.
According to The Telegraph, Thiago will not recover from his problem until at least mid-March.
This is the Spaniard’s second serious injury this season after coming back from a hamstring issue. He must now start a new rehab process, hoping the Reds would be able to bounce back from their poor form without him.
A disappointing run of results has left Liverpool stranded in the Premier League‘s tenth spot. Jurgen Klopp’s men have lost three of their last four games ahead of the Merseyside derby.
“Thiago has some problems, hip flexor, stuff like this so he was not able to train,” Klopp said on Friday.
Thiago’s injury will most likely force Klopp to move Jordan Henderson to the centre of his midfield setup. Curtis Jones and Naby Keita are the main candidates to play on the left and right-hand channels, respectively.
After the derby match at Anfield, Liverpool will travel to St James’ Park to meet Newcastle next weekend.
