The Reds might have to play without the Uruguayan striker on Tuesday.
Darwin Nunez might miss Liverpool’s upcoming Champions League game against Real Madrid.
The young striker was on the shoreline for the Reds when they defeated Newcastle 2-0 on Saturday. However, he left the pitch just before the hour-mark with a shoulder injury.
Speaking after the game, Klopp said: “The bad news [is] Darwin has something on his shoulder. We will see.
“In the end, he had to go off with a shoulder issue. We need further assessment. I don’t know in the moment. In the moment is it painful, but hopefully it’s just painful and not more.”
A new report from Daily Mail, however, claims Nunez is “doubtful” for Liverpool’s upcoming game against Real Madrid.
Nunez, who joined Liverpool in the summer for a club-record fee, has scored 11 goals for the club in all competitions this season.
The striker’s form in the Champions League has been better than in other competitions, scoring in three successive group games against Rangers, Ajax and Napoli.
Nunez’s absence might force Klopp to use Roberto Firmino in his starting lineup against Real Madrid. The Uruguayan striker will most likely return to action when the Reds take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League next Saturday.
