Jurgen Klopp’s men are no stranger to beating huge odds, but can they do it against a team with the highest pedigree in the competition?

All eyes will be on Anfield on Wednesday night when Liverpool welcome Real Madrid for what is arguably their most important match of the season so far.

The Premier League champions find themselves in a slippery slope going into the Champions League quarter-final second-leg as they have on their hands an arduous task of overcoming a 3-1 deficit from the first leg.

A defensively feeble visiting side at the Alfredo Di Stefano last week allowed Vinicius Junior and Marco Asensio to breach their backline and fund the net without excessive efforts while Mohamed Salah got a consolation goal as a lifeline.

Playing at home might not be any extra benefit for the home team as Anfield, once a fortress, have been their big weakness lately.

Since the turn of the year, only twice out of nine games have the Reds won at Anfield and even went on a six-game losing run.

Only twice out of 13 attempts have they progressed to the next round after losing the first leg by a two-goal margin in the Champions League.

Morale will be high for Zinedine Zidane’s men going into the crunch clash as they come on the back of a 2-1 victory over Barcelona which saw them drift up to second place in La Liga standings.

The El Clasico success saw them extend their winning run to six games and unbeaten streak to 13 games across all competitions.

Defensive frailties have been witnessed for the Spanish side as they have managed a single clean sheet in their last eight games. Their attack, though, is well-oiled as they have found the net in 17 successive matches in all competitions and have scored at least twice in each of their previous six fixtures.
