A defensively solid Blues side refused to return empty-handed from Anfield despite playing the majority of the match with 10 men.

Liverpool and Chelsea shared the spoils in a captivating and intense Premier League clash on Saturday, with the two title contenders settling for a 1-1 draw.

It appeared Chelsea were about to take a well-deserved 1-0 lead into the break, having taken the lead through a brilliant looping header from Kai Havertz in the middle of the first half. Thomas Tuchel’s men had looked largely in control of the game before the goal, and even after it.

A dramatic turn of events prompted by panic in the box moments before the half-time break, however, helped Liverpool get back in the game. The referee pointed to the spot the VAR confirmed that Reece James had used his arm to block off a shot during a goalmouth scramble. Mohamed Salah cooly converted the penalty, sending Edouard Mendy the wrong way.

The second half saw the hosts become much more dominant, although all their efforts of penetrating the watertight Blues backline were in vain.

Liverpool and Chelsea remain in the top-three of the Premier League standings, with the latter sitting at second above the former due to a better goal difference.
