Following a difficult 2022-23 campaign, Liverpool have added only two new players to their squad.
Virgil van Dijk has admitted Liverpool still have defensive problems despite signing two players this summer.
Liverpool have come under criticism for their relatively quiet transfer window this summer. Having finished the Premier League in the fifth spot, the Reds were expected to increase their squad depth in several areas.
Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai are both expected to become key players for Liverpool next season. However, Liverpool could sign more players until the transfer window deadline.
“A lot of players are leaving. Your captain and vice-captain and at the moment there are only two incomings,” the Dutch defender said.
“The way we have been playing, in possession really good but when you concede it’s not good, so I can understand some people having doubts.
“Let’s see if more players are coming in and then we have to be ready again for a long season. We have to be confident, we should be confident and we should still be learning each and every day.”
He added: “There have been characters leaving, players who have played a big part in the success, but others have to step up. That’s a nice challenge in my opinion. We should be excited. I’m very excited, so let’s give it a go.”
