Liverpool and AC Milan could be set for a transfer tussle. Both clubs are strongly interested in Schalke central defender Ozan Kabak.
Unexpected injuries means Liverpool might be forced to dip into the winter window when it opens in January. Van Dijk looks set to be out for months and Fabinho has joined the injury list as well. All of that leaves the Reds needing a defender and they have been linked with Schalke star Ozan Kabak since last week.
The Reds reportedly opened talks with the Turkish defender last week ahead of a move in January. However, news of that appears to have forced Milan to act. A fee of £20m is reportedly the asking price from Schalke.
Both clubs are reportedly in the running to sign Kabak in time for the transfer window reopening on January 1.
Given their injury situation at the moment, Liverpool could likely be the more desperate side to go all out for his signature.
However, Milan have equal motivation for a new name as well. Given the Rossoneri’s performances this season, Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the club’s hierarchy fancy a new defender to further improve their chances of challenging for the Serie A.
The report concludes that Kabak is the number one priority for Milan in the January window. If reports are true, it’ll be up to both sides to convince Schalke to sell.
