The Reds have tied down one of their most promising youngsters to a new contract.

Liverpool have announced a contract extension for Stefan Bajcetic.

The Spanish defender joined the Reds’ academy ranks from Celta Vigo in December 2020. His performances convinced Jurgen Klopp to include him in Liverpool’s pre-season last summer.

A 9-0 victory over Bournemouth in August saw Bajcetic make his senior debut for the Reds at Anfield. He then made his first start for Liverpool when Klopp’s men took on Derby County in a Carabao Cup match.

“Obviously I’m so, so happy, so excited to keep playing for this club and hopefully I can play more years together,” Bajcetic told Liverpool’s official website after signing a new long-term contract. “Me and my family are very proud to sign a new contract with this club.

“It feels amazing. It’s something I’ve been dreaming of in these two years I’ve been here and something that I’ve been working hard [for] as well.”

Bajcetic has received praise for his composure and goalscoring instinct. The 18-year-old scored his first goal for the Reds in their 3-1 victory over Aston Villa on December 26.

Klopp’s side will take on Brighton in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.
