Jose Enrique has described Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara as exceptional and backed him to be the signing of the season.
Liverpool got themselves a bargain after snatching Thiago Alcantara from the hands of Bayern Munich.
The midfielder joined the Reds on a four-year deal from the Bundesliga giants for a reported fee of £20m.
Over the course of his career at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, Thiago has won a respectable 24 trophies in total including two Champions League crowns.
The Spaniard is widely regarded as one of the finest midfielders currently in the game and he’ll be aiming to prove his worth in the Premier League.
Thiago already showed Liverpool fans glimpses of what to expect with a stellar performance against Chelsea on his debut. He has yet to play since then after testing positive for covid-19 but is back in contention for spots.
Former Liverpool man Jose Enrique is confident Liverpool have on their books a player that could well be the signing of the season.
“He’s (Thiago) a phenomenal player. He’s a top midfielder but he’s also a magician in the way that [Philippe] Coutinho was,” the former Liverpool defender told the Daily Mail.
“I can see him alongside Jordan Henderson and Fabinho in midfield, giving the team something they didn’t have before. It says a lot about where the club is right now that someone who is an important player at Bayern Munich wants to come and play for Liverpool.”
Enrique added: “Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri are good players but we were missing someone who, if he adapts, can reach the level of the other three forwards,” he added. “Now with Jota, it would not be as serious a problem if one of the others were out for a longer period.
“I think [Jurgen] Klopp has the best squad he has had since he has been at the club, and he will make the signings better players. He makes all of them better players.
“It’s difficult to improve someone who a top Bayern player but Thiago will learn new things. He will be, if not the signing, then certainly one of the signings of the season.”
