As a result of a congested schedule for the international duty next year, Liverpool talisman will be missed in the Premier League.
Liverpool will face the difficult situation of losing striker Mohamed Salah for up to three months during the next season. This is because he will play for his nation Egypt during the international break. Evidently, Salah will feature in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo as an overage player. However, due to the on-going COVID19 pandemic, the Olympic Committee postponed the games to the year 2021.
On the other hand, the African Cup of Nations will take place earlier in January and February 2022. Therefore, Salah could potentially miss a considerable amount of fixtures for Liverpool in the 2021-22 Premier League season.
Furthermore, Egypt under-23 coach Shawky Garib mentioned that he wants Salah to lead the country in Japan. He told reporters via Ahram Online: “The team’s technical staff and the Egyptian Football Association have the desire to call up Mohamed Salah for the Olympics.
“Salah is a world-class player and I hope that he will be able to play with us in the Olympics. When you have such a player in your team, the objectives of the team would be different.”
“Brazil won the gold medal in Rio De Janeiro thanks to Neymar who led the Brazilian team in this competition.”
Klopp could miss more players.
The Olympics Games will be played between July 23 and August 8. Meaning Salah will skip the pre-season and some of the starting matches for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. Additionally, due to the AFCON tournament, some of the other stars such as Sadio Mane, and Naby Keita could also not be available for the Reds. This will be a major issue for Klopp as two of his strikers will be gone in the middle of the season.
Moreover, former Egypt international Mido expressed his desire to see Salah at the AFCON. He told the Sun: “Salah must go with Egypt to AFCON — and Liverpool don’t have the right to say no.
“These are Fifa rules and they can’t prevent Salah from joining the national team for any reason. If Salah doesn’t want to go, then this is the only reason for not seeing him.”
Mido added: “Salah is very important, of course, to our senior national team and to the Olympic team.”
