Liverpool star pulls out of Senegal squad due to rib injury

Sadio Mane will not be able to play for Senegal in their upcoming World Cup qualifier.

Senegal won were held to a 1-1 draw in their World Cup qualifying game on Thursday.

The result was not a major blow for the national team as they remained on top of the Group H table. However, the Lions of Teranga will have to play without one of their key players in their next World Cup qualifier.

Sadio Mane suffered a rib injury only 28 minutes into the game. The player was immediately substituted and underwent X-Ray tests the next day.

On Sunday, Senegal manager Aliou Cisse confirmed that Mane has returned to Liverpool. The Reds star will miss his side’s match against Congo on Sunday evening.

Cisse did not provide a return date for Mane, with the forward being a doubt for the Liverpool clash against Arsenal. Jurgen Klopp’s will face the Gunners next Saturday, but they might have to play without some of their key players.

Roberto Firmino is out with a hamstring injury, while Jordan Henderson is also a doubt for the upcoming game. However, the severity of Henderson’s injury is unclear, and he might recover in time for the game.
