For a good part of the summer window, Barcelona set their sights on a Liverpool player. Ronald Koeman wanted Georginio Wijnaldum.

Georginio Wijnaldum has addressed the speculation linking him to Barcelona during the summer transfer window.

Newly appointed Barca boss Ronald Koeman is familiar with the Liverpool star from his stint as Netherlands boss. He was reportedly trying to convince his compatriot to move to the Nou Camp.

Wijnaldum also entered the final year of his contract and it looked likely the Liverpool man could leave at some point. However, he stayed put at the club but is yet to sign a contract extension.

Looking back at the speculations to Barcelona, the 29-year-old says it was never ‘serious’.

“I don’t think it was that serious,” he said as quoted by Daily Mail.

“Otherwise you would have read a bit more, or more would have happened.”

‘There was nothing precise. The way it looks now, I will stay in Liverpool.”

“My contract is valid for another 10 months and that can change. You never know in football. We will see what happens.”

Wijnaldum continues to be a key player for Liverpool and has played all four of their Premier League games this term.

Jurgen Klopp recently heaped praise on the midfielder and admitted he’ll want him to stay put at the club.
