The Reds are on the verge of signing Ben Doak from Celtic as they prepare for a busy summer transfer window.

Liverpool have been negotiating with Celtic over a potential move for Ben Doak in recent weeks. The Reds have had several opponents in the race to sign Doak, with Leeds United also showing ‘concrete interest’ in the teenage winger.

However, it seems the Reds have now secured their first signing of the next transfer window. According to the Athletic, Celtic have accepted Liverpool’s fee of £600,000 for Doak.

The fee is compensation for Celtic’s role in Doak’s development as the 16-year-old is not under a professional contract at the Scottish club.

The Celtic youngster played his senior debut against Dundee United in January. However, the club’s efforts to keep their academy star have not worked as he is on the verge of moving to Anfield.

Eariler this month, Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou admitted he prefers not to have players who wish to leave the club.

“I’ve said all along my role is to look after the footballers that want to be here. The footballers that don’t want to be here? There’s another avenue there for them,” he explained.

Liverpool are also interested in signing Irish youngster Trent Kone-Doherty.

The 15-year-old is among Celtic’s main transfer targets for their academy ranks. However, according to 90min, he has decided to join the Reds. Kone-Doherty was born in Derry, meaning he could move to England before turning 18 as the region is part of the United Kingdom.
