Jurgen Klopp subbed off the midfielder after a poor display in the first half.
Former Arsenal star https://talksport.com/football/1568204/Martin Keown criticized Alexis Mac Allister for his performance in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Wolves.
Liverpool failed to get back into the game during the first half after conceding an early goal. The Reds struggled to create chances as Wolves won most of the battles in midfield.
Klopp replaced Mac Allister with Luis Diaz at the beginning of the second half. His decision paid off as the Reds completed a brilliant comeback to win the game 3-1.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Keown said of Mac Allister’s performance: “Another mistake from Mac Allister, you didn’t see him do this in a Brighton jersey.
“These are the basics. I wondered if he was going to drag his man down.
“Mac Allister would be better higher up the midfield. Liverpool are trying to force it through the midfield where Wolves are compact.”
Liverpool added Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo to their midfield during the summer transfer window. The latter could become a serious contender to secure a lineup spot ahead of Mac Allister if the Argentine fails to find his place in Liverpool’s midfield.
The Reds will face LASK in the Europa League on Thursday before hosting West Ham in the EPL three days later.
