As part of the wave that is pushing him out of the club, a Liverpool legend urged Man United to sell one of their biggest stars at the moment.
Man United currently has a star who could become a great economic aid for the institution during a pandemic year. That man is none other than Paul Pogba, whose spell as a Red Devil keeps edging toward a bitter end. One of Liverpool’s legendary players is making the rounds talking about his new book. But while doing the interview with talkSPORT, he was asked about the whole Paul Pogba situation.
Even though he becomes a player who could leave for a low price in January, Jamie Carragher still thinks United would make a mistake if they don’t get good money for him. Even if Pogba is still considered one of the world’s best midfielders, it is evident the club already found his replacement. If United was to consider selling him, they have to at least recover a piece of the €110 million they initially paid for him in 2016.
Carragher doesn’t like Pogba for Man United anymore.
While talking to talkSPORT, Carragher said: “I think in some ways you could say that everybody is unhappy with his position because the fact we’re still talking about what is Paul Pogba’s best position when he’s been at the club for four years I think tells you he’s never done well enough in any position or tactical set-up that managers have had at Manchester United really. For me when I look at it now: Would I pick Pogba in the Manchester United team? I wouldn’t.
“I think he’s a huge name who came for a huge transfer fee but I don’t think he’s a great player. People say he’s won the World Cup and I get that it’s an argument to throw at me. When he came in I thought he may have an impact of [Frank] Lampard at Chelsea, Stevie [Gerrard] at Liverpool, Yaya [Toure] at City. Those players drove their teams to titles, to European Cups.
“I know you could say the other players aren’t great [at United] but when you’re that man to take United to the next level – and people may say that’s too much pressure for one man – but that’s almost what we were told was coming. This package, most expensive player in the world, can do everything in midfield, done it for Juventus but he just hasn’t done it at Manchester United. I would be looking to move him on next summer.”
