The Reds could have gone a man down after a reckless tackle by Ibrahima Konate.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Ibrahima Konate should’ve been sent off in the Merseyside derby.

Everton had to play with ten men after Ashley Young received a second yellow card in the 37th minute. Liverpool, however, were lucky, as a similar scenario could have seen Konate being sent off in the second half.

The Liverpool centre-back was booked in the 50th minute but committed another reckless tackle on Beto only 15 minutes later. The referee, however, decided against giving sending Konate off.

“Ibrahima, could have gone, yes,” Klopp admitted when asked about Konate’s foul. “It could have happened obviously and then we took him off and from that moment we were solid and compact.”

Mohamed Salah‘s brace sealed a 2-0 victory for Liverpool as they stayed third in the Premier League table. Asked about his side’s performance in the derby, Klopp responded: “It is a derby, you have to consider different stuff and with a better last pass in the first half we are three-nil up. Our counter-attacks and good offensive transitions we should have scored and didn’t. We didn’t allow them to do what they wanted. We were clear in the challenges.”
