The German boss wants to see a combination of young and experienced stars in Liverpool’s midfield.

Jurgen Klopp has reportedly asked Liverpool’s board to extend James Milner’s contract.

Milner extended his previous contract for another year last summer. However, he has Klopp’s green light to stay for another season.

According to Football Insider, the German boss is a “huge admirer” of Milner, who has been playing for the Reds since 2015.

Milner’s presence is crucial to Liverpool’s dressing-room atmosphere, convincing Klopp to push for his stay. The Liverpool manager has given Milner 32 appearances across all competitions this season.

Liverpool are yet to open negotiations with Milner. However, most English sources expect the two parties to quickly reach an agreement.

The news of Milner’s possible contract renewal comes amid Liverpool’s search for midfield reinforcement.

Jude Bellingham has stayed the club’s number one target for the next summer, with Borussia Dortmund reportedly demanding €120m for the England international.

Liverpool have also shown interest in signing Wolves’ Matheus Nunes, who has attracted interest from a number of elite sides this season.

The Portuguese star could be available for a relatively low price if Wolves suffer relegation. However, Milne’s possible contract extension could convince the Reds to avoid adding another midfielder to their ranks.
