The Liverpool manager has started his self-isolation after returning a suspected positive COVID-19 test.

Liverpool will face Chelsea in a crucial Premier League game on Sunday. The Reds will look to reclaim their second spot in the league. However, they will have to make do without touchline support from Jurgen Klopp.

On Saturday, Liverpool confirmed Klopp has moved to isolation after experiencing ‘mild symptoms’.

The club’s official statement reads: “The Reds manager, who reported mild symptoms ahead of the fixture, is now isolating.

“Assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders will therefore lead the team for the 4.30pm GMT kick-off at Stamford Bridge.”

Klopp confirmed in the pre-match press conference that three players of his squad have tested positive for COVID-19.

“We never had this proper outbreak where 15 to 20 players had it [Covid],” he said. “For us it is every day, another one, stuff happens more and more often. It’s like a lottery waiting for the results.”

In addition to the three players, the club have confirmed three backroom staff members have also returned suspected positive results.

This Covid outbreak at Liverpool has generated doubts around whether the Premier League would decide to postpone the game. However, according to Goal, the Reds have not requested the league officials for a postponement.

In addition to their Covid cases, Liverpool have another five players out with injuries. Thiago Alcantara, Divock Origi, Takumi Minamino, Nat Phillips and Harvey Elliott will also miss the Chelsea game.
