The Reds restarted their Premier League campaign with a heavy defeat.

Diogo Jota has insisted Liverpool’s poor start to the second half played a key role in their 4-1 defeat against Manchester City.

Mohamed Salah put the Reds ahead at Etihad early on, but City bounced back to score the equalizer through Julian Alvarez.

The Citizens completed their comeback with a goal from Kevin De Bruyne only a minute after the break. Liverpool’s backline conceded twice more as it crumbled under City’s immense pressure.

Speaking on Sunday, Jota said“The decisive moment was the beginning of the second half when they scored two goals very quickly and swung the balance in their favour.

“We scored first, we could’ve managed the game better, it is what it is, and with that second half, we let them take the game and the three points.

“It’s hard to explain, even in the second goall. I believe we won the ball, so we pressed well, but we lost the ball straight away, and they found us unbalanced, and they were able to score.”

Liverpool have struggled for defensive stability all season, conceding 33 league goals. The defeat against Man City kept the Reds in the eighth spot on the table, seven points below the top four.
