Jurgen Klopp reportedly held ‘positive’ talks with Georgino Wijnaldum today in a bid to convince him to remain at the club this summer.

There is talk of Wijnaldum leaving Liverpool this summer and those reports could be true.

Newly appointed Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman wants a reunion with a player he is familiar with from his Netherlands stint.

Wijnaldum joined the Reds from Newcastle for £25m back in 2016. Since then, the Dutchman has established himself as an integral player for Liverpool under Klopp.

However, the 29-year-old’s future at the club is now uncertain.

Wijnaldum has run into the final year of his contract and reports say he could be open to a new challenge elsewhere.

With no additions asides left-back Tsimikas so far, Liverpool are reluctant to let any of their players leave.

Sky Sports report that Jurgen Klopp and Wijnaldum held a meeting regarding the player’s future on Friday afternoon.

There was no talk about a contract extension. However, the German manager did speak on the possibility of the player seeing out his contract.

Wijnaldum could yet play a part in Liverpool’s supposed pursuit of Thiago Alcantara. The Reds are so far unwilling to meet Bayern’s £27m valuation of the Spaniard.

Selling the Dutchman off their books could create room and cash for them to bring in Thiago. To keep him at the club or cash in on him now? Liverpool have a tough decision to make with that one.
