Liverpool have been handed a timely boost following news that Diogo Jota will return to training this week.

Diogo Jota is on the verge of giving Jurgen Klopp a much-needed lift with an imminent return to first-team training.

The Portuguese forward is expected to take part in a full session on Wednesday but he is unlikely to feature against Sheffield United on Sunday.

As per The Guardian, summer signing Jota is more likely to return to action against Chelsea next week.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a bright start to life at Liverpool, having already scored nine goals in 17 total appearances for the Reds.

But he sustained a serious knee injury in the Champions League dead-rubber against FC Midtjylland in December.

The Reds have missed his potency in front of goal as back up to the front three of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

With Liverpool now reduced to a top-four fight rather than a title challenge, the return of Jota could not have come at a better time.

The defending champions have now lost seven games this season and trail fourth-placed West Ham by five points in the race to qualify for the Champions League.

Elsewhere, Liverpool should discover the full extent of Jordan Henderson’s abductor injury later on Tuesday.
