A report has claimed that Virgil Van Dijk has started ‘light training’ with hopes that his injury might not be as serious as feared.
In what would be welcome news at the Liverpool camp, Van Dijk has started to participate in ‘light training’.
It has been speculated that the Dutchman could miss the rest of the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament following a collision with Everton keeper Jordan Pickford.
It got worse for Liverpool on the defensive front with Joe Gomez joining Van Dijk on the treatment table after picking up a nasty injury in training with England.
However, the Daily Mail now claims that the Dutchman has returned to low impact training following his recent surgery.
That would come as a boost considering Jurgen Klopp is missing several first-team names ahead of his side’s clash with Leicester City on Sunday.
Trent-Alexander Arnold and Mohamed Salah are definitely out. Elsewhere, Klopp must make decisions over Andy Robertson, Fabinho, and Thiago Alcantara after they returned to training after recent injuries. They would have to pass late fitness tests.
The report mentions that Van Dijk is in the first phase of his recovery after successful ACL surgery last month following his injury in the Merseyside derby draw.
It remains to be seen whether he is ahead of schedule in his recovery but his return to light training is good news for the Reds as he prepares for a second and more intensive period of rehab.
