Joe Gomez insists Liverpool intend to put on a strong display in the upcoming Community Shield final against Arsenal.

Liverpool started their preparations for the 2020/21 season on the right foot by recording a 3-0 victory against German side Stuttgart in their first pre-season friendly on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp’s men now await a match against RB Salzburg on Tuesday before concluding their training program in Austria.

The coming Saturday will mark the return of competitive football for them as they are set to meet Arsenal, last season’s FA Cup winners, at Wembley in the final of the Community Shield.

“In terms of the game the other day, I think a lot of us had in mind, ‘In a week from now we play in the Community Shield’,” defender Joe Gomez told the official club website.

“Even though it’s a short break, it’s obviously important we hit the ground running and in less than a week now there’s a trophy up for grabs.

“I definitely think we can’t just treat them as friendlies and more so the foundations to put in a good performance on the weekend.”

Liverpool will then begin their title defense on September 12, when they host newly-promoted side Leeds United at Anfield.
