The Brazilian forward is edging closer to making his return at Anfield.

Roberto Firmino will miss Liverpool’s upcoming match against Leicester City despite his improved fitness.

A calf injury kept the experienced forward out of Liverpool’s first two games after the World Cup break. The Reds hoped to have him back for their clash against Leicester this Friday.

However, Firmino is yet to resume team training ahead of the game.

“I’m already healed, thank God. I’ll probably train tomorrow,” the 31-year-old told talkSPORT.

“Then all being well I’ll be ready not for the next game but the one after that. So all great.”

Firmino managed to reclaim his spot in Liverpool’s starting lineup after Sadio Mane’s departure in the summer. The Brazilian star has registered seven goals and three assists in 13 Premier League games so far this season.

However, he will have to compete against Cody Gakpo upon his return. The Reds added the former PSV Eindhoven star to their ranks earlier this week.

“Thanks to the work we are doing, and our mentality of never giving up, we’re now back and in form,” Firmino added.

“It’s a tremendous pleasure to play alongside the young players. They really help us a lot.

“When they come up to train with us they become important pieces of our team. They really help us a lot and we help them as well.”
