The Reds are eager to rebuild their midfield line ahead of the next season.
Liverpool are reportedly considering a summer move for Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka.
The German international remained a key part of Bayern’s midfield line last season, making 40 appearances across all competitions. However, his performances lacked enough consistency, convincing the Bavarians to look for new midfield options.
Liverpool, who are already linked with a move for Bayern’s Ryan Gravenberch, seem to have shifted their attention toward Goretzka.
According to Football Transfers, Goretzka’s versatility has attracted Liverpool’s interest. The 28-year-old can play in both No.6 and No.8 positions, with his fantastic physical form making him an ideal box-to-box midfielder.
A report from Sky Germany claims Bayern are open to selling Goretzka for €40-50m. Thomas Tuchel is reportedly willing to offload the German star to open up space for a new midfielder. Goretzka is also among the candidates to replace Declan Rice at West Ham.
Liverpool made an offer to sign Goretzka from Schalke in 2018, but he preferred to continue his career at Bayern. Speaking to the Athletic, the midfielder praised Klopp for his achievements at the English side.
Speaking to The Athletic, Goretzka said: “They were a consideration, of course. They’re a great club, and their development since Klopp came has been amazing.
“I took a long time making my decision, and I was 100 per cent sure that Bayern was the right move for me.”
Bayern are reportedly planning to make an offer for Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni if Goretzka ends up joining Liverpool this summer.
