The Egyptian forward caused controversy as well as unrest among the Reds supporters after flirting with the Spanish heavyweights.
Liverpool are thinking about cashing in on ‘unhappy’ Mohamed Salah at the end of the season, says former Egypt international Mohamed Aboutrika.
The 28-year-old was denied the opportunity to wear the armband in the Champions League clash against FC Midtjylland despite Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum being on the bench and James Milner and Virgil van Dijk on the sidelines.
The former Chelsea man openly expressed his disappointment at Jurgen Klopp’s decision to appoint Trent Alexander-Arnold as captain.
He then also opened the door for a potential move to Real Madrid or FC Barcelona, with the two being ‘top clubs’ according to him.
Subsequently, he was dropped from Saturday’s Premier League game against Crystal Palace.
“I called Salah about his situation in Liverpool and he is upset, but that would never affect his performance in the field,” the player’s compatriot, Aboutrika told beIN Sports, via Goal.
“I know that Salah is not happy in Liverpool, he told me the reasons why he is not happy but they are secrets and I cannot talk about it in public. One of the reasons that made Salah angry that he was not the captain against Midtjylland.
“If Salah was a player in Real Madrid or Barcelona, and playing in the same level as in Liverpool, he would’ve won Ballon d’Or, and it is normal for a Spanish newspaper to ask Salah about Real Madrid and Barcelona.
“In my opinion, Liverpool is considering selling Salah for economic purposes.”
