The Senegalese keeper saved a penalty, but it wasn’t to prevent the Reds from winning the title.

A thrilling penalty shoot-out saw Liverpool edge out Chelsea 6-5 to win the FA Cup. The Reds won their second trophy of the season, thanks to a brilliant penalty save from Alisson Becker.

The Brazilian keeper denied Mason Mount with a fantastic reaction before Konstantinos Tsimikas scored the decisive penalty.

However, Liverpool could have finished the job earlier. Sadio Mane had a chance to win the trophy for the Reds by scoring their fifth penalty. But a save from his countryman delayed the Reds’ eventual victory.

In a post-match interview, Alisson said: “Mendy and I did amazing saves.

“I couldn’t do the saves without the help of the team. We worked well defensively even if they had chances. They tried to block the shots and it makes it easier for me and I’m glad for that.

“It was good. I think all of the goalkeeper coaches helped me with the decisions and then I am there. They are all fantastic players, but we deserved the win and I only did that save because we deserved it.

“That’s part of the mentality monsters as well, going to extra time and keeping the performance level high. It gives us even more confidence for the Premier League and the Champions League final.”

Having already won two titles this season, Liverpool still has two more trophies to fight for. In the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp’s side are three points behind Manchester City with two games remaining, while in the Champions League, they must face Real Madrid in the final on May 28.
