Ahead of the winter transfer season in January, Liverpool midfielder refused to provide information about his contract.

Georginio Wijnaldum made a firm statement when asked about his further agreement with Liverpool. Moreover, he insisted the media reporters ask the club about his situation. The Dutch international will subsequently become a free agent next year, with little to no news about his contract extension.

Some of the reports though suggest that it is possible that his former Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman could snap him to Barcelona. And the Dutchmen could go under negotiations in January over a free transfer for next summer.

However, Wijnaldum received questions regarding his future at Liverpool, though he did not give anything away.

“I can’t say anything about that. Just ask Liverpool those questions. Don’t they answer?” he told Dutch outlet Het Parool.

“I cannot say anything about it. Including whether or not there is talk of a new contract between me and Liverpool. Sorry.”

A man with immense experience.

Wijnaldum has been a crucial part of Jurgen Klopp’s fine managerial spell at Anfield since his arrival from Newcastle in 2016. Moreover, the 29-year-old aided the Reds through successful Premier League and Champions League over the past two seasons. Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson, although, insisted the club to extend Wijnaldum’s deal further.

“I think they need to keep him,” the ex-England international told Compare.bet

“I think he’s a fantastic footballer. He’s one of those all-round midfielders, great on the ball, not an out-and-out goalscorer, and not an out-and-out defender. So he’s one of those utility men in midfield who can play in any one of the three positions.

“And I think he’s a fantastic squad player. And obviously, the experience he’s gained in the last few years is hard to replace.”

Following Liverpool’s draw against Man City last week, Wijnaldum spoke about the team’s motivation ahead of the remaining campaign.

Wijnaldum said: “We knew we might not be at the top after this weekend going to Manchester City is just a tough game. But take it from me: we are just as eager at Liverpool, you know. The group wants more, and the manager is still pushing us.”
