As a way to echo what Jurgen Klopp said earlier in the week, one of his top players made a statement against the tough football calendars.

Liverpool is arguably the most affected club by the global pandemic as Jurgen Klopp eloquently put it last weekend. The German manager had a heated argument with a reporter from BT Sports as he reprimanded the network and Sky Sports for the busy schedules.

As a result of these decisions made by broadcasters, players from all football clubs are starting to drop injured like flies. But Liverpool is the most affected institution with this plague with eight players who are recovering from serious injuries.

One of the footballers who is recovering is Trent Alexander-Arnold and he had a lot to say about the calendar. But regardless of what the youngster or Klopp says against the powers that be. The reality is that the pandemic has most of the blame for everything that’s happening.

Trent’s rant against the powers that be.

Talking to the Daily Mirror, this is what Trent said: “We get paid to play football, so we can’t complain about having to play games. But we have to give a thought to our bodies. It’s not right to put a human body through so much intensity.

“You look at marathon runners, people who do triathlons and cyclists on the Tour de France. They train for so long to compete in such quick succession. You have to train for those sort of distances – and our bodies aren’t trained to do that. We have 90-minute hits, we have to recover from that. But when you’re asked to do that so quickly, it’s not fair and the human body cannot cope with that.

“You’ve got to think that of the three-month lockdown, we had to try and stay as fit as possible. We were doing four or five sessions a week, not knowing when we were going to come back. We had to stay relatively match fit in case it came back on quickly. Going straight back into games. It hurt a lot of players without much of a build-up.”
